Ameen Saleem
Ameen says about his involvement in the Arts...
"I'm a chill, laid back person until I get a bass in my hand... then it's on. Love, love, love music and anything art related. People often ask what kind of music do I play. I respond, "I play bass." All genres are fair game. If I don't know the genre, I'll improvise, listen, and find my way into the groove."
He goes on to say, "Born and raised in DC. Proud of that. I love my city. But I also love to travel. You never know where I'll be. I go a little bit of everywhere through music. The only way to know me really is to meet me or some of my close friends. I have many. I'm a people person. No enemies that I know of."
Ameen graduated from the Duke Ellington School of the Arts in 1997. He went on to attend North Carolina Central University from 1997-2001. He majored in Music Performance, earning a Bachelor's Degree. He performed in the Jazz Ensemble and was Musical Director of the Choir Ball. From 2002-2005, Ameen attended Cuny Queens College in Flushing, New York, earning a Master's Degree, majoring in Music Performance.
Recently, Ameen Saleem has been touring extensively across the US, Europe and Japan with The Roy Hargrove Quintet and the Roy Hargrove Big Band. Source: Kandie Le Britain Webster, Contributing Editor

From the opening bars, he demonstrates he is a drummer dedicated to supporting the ensemble and allowing the music to breathe. The stellar band, assembled for this purpose, includes ...

by Alex Franquelli
Composer Irving Berlin once famously said that everybody ought to have a Lower East Side in their life." True and, although technically speaking Brooklyn is not part of the octagon that thrives between Houston Street and FRD Drive, the groove, that precious intimate rumble of inspiration, is the one element that connects one area with the other; contemporary music and its multiple historical declinations. While the paradigm differs and keeps on evolving, the end result is invariably of a similar ...
