About Me
Kevin Wells began his professional music career as a bassist in his hometown of Chicago, performing Blues and R&B in iconic smoky blues clubs while still in high school. He later attended the University of Wisconsin, where he met drummer Tony Taylor. The two began performing in college talent shows, eventually joining forces with guitarist Tom Theabo, WAMI Hall of Fame vocalist Janet Planet, and renowned bluesman Dave Janke to form the R&B band Sweet Davy J’s Body Talk. Following that project, Kevin explored progressive rock with the band Maxgain and later joined the seven-piece jazz ensemble Playtime. His versatility as a bassist led him to become a longtime member of the Brenda Theabo Trio, and he eventually founded his own group, The Kevin Wells Project. Kevin went on to co-found the award-winning jazz supergroup KWT4, alongside jazz guitar legend Tom Theabo, drummer Tony Taylor, WAMI award-winning saxophonist Tom Washatka, and guitar virtuoso Scott Dercks. As a sought-after sideman, Kevin has performed with a wide range of notable artists. He’s also been a regular on-call bassist for groups including The Lil Davy Max Band, Kelly Jackson, Big Papa Boogie, Mojo and the Flip-side, The Alex Wilson Band, The Monica Hrudik Combo, and Hip Pocket, among many others.
