My Jazz Story
My House Concert Story
House concerts are rare birds in my playing history. However, two stick out. First one was years ago with a band I led that included Ben Stivers on organ whose played with everyone, Sonny Jain on kit of Red Baraat fame and Anibal Rojas on tenor who always defies logic even when playing with the likes of Kelly Clarkson. We were booked by a local (to me) dentist for a private event where the music was apparently the showcase. I was thrilled to be able to bring down this formidable group to my 'hood. I had great history logged in with Sonny and Anibal already and Ben and I were finding ourselves in cahoots often and really vibing off each other. With all that said, you'd think the playing area would be commensurate of the event. When I tell you the area cordoned off for us was, err, small I'm being uncharacteristically polite. Did I mention it was in a separate room from where the guests were corralled? Yeah... The other and more recent date was in Youngstown, Ohio with Joe Deninzon. Nice people, good times peppered with gunshots in the wind. Surreal.
