About the Album

Joel Jeschke is a highly sought-after drummer in both the jazz and rock scenes in Edmonton, Alberta. Having performed and recorded with countless artists - including rock bands Royal Tusk (MNRK Records) and Whale and the Wolf, as well as with modern jazz artists Aretha Tillotson, the Stephanie Urquhart Quartet, and Brett Hansen - Jeschke now turns his attention to Time & Place, his debut album as a composer and bandleader. This brilliant new album is a study in balance: asymmetrical time signatures are gently tempered by a faint but visceral pulse; moments of dissonance are calmed by lonely, yearning melodies. This record tenderly navigates the borders of a harsh landscape by vacillating between contrasting emotional states - the chaos of a piece like The Number Twelve is balanced by the solemn introspection of Song For When It Rains. These works speak deliberately, with a desire to be heard and understood. While he wanders, Jeschke’s musical voice flirts with the unknown in hopes of making a point not yet discovered. Jeschke’s extensive experience with metal bands, jazz ensembles, and even musical theatre productions has enriched the depth and versatility of his musical voice. Time & Place is a stunning debut album from an exciting up and coming Canadian jazz musician: a showcase for bold experimentation by an extraordinary young band.
