About the Album

"The Observer," from Tineke Postma's recently released The Dawn of Light (Challenge, 2011), also featuring keyboardist Martin van Roon, bassist Frans van der Hoeven and drummer Martijn Vink - the Dutch saxophonist's regular working band for the past few years, but the group's first actual recording.

The episodic track ebbs and flows in dynamics and tempo, Postma's soprano soaring into fluttering passages that occasionally reach into the stratosphere - piercing but pure - leading to a stop-and-start piano solo that van Roon mixes with the occasional synth line to give The Dawn of Light a combined retro and thoroughly modern vibe.

Tracks

Canção de Amor (Suite I Na Floresta do Amazonas); Falling Scales; Before the Snow; Leave Me A Place Underground; The Observer; Off Minor; Newland; The Man Who Started At Coats; Beyond Category; Tell It Like It Is.
