About the Album

The title of the track 'Moving Mountains' suggests the image of a passing horizon in its undulating patterns moving in and out of alignment. This was the mental imagine composer Jasmine Lovell-Smith had in mind when she conceived of the layered rhythmic motives that sparked this composition. Recorded by Lovell-Smith's NYC based quintet 'Towering Poppies, this track also features the Mexican-based string quartet 'Cuarteto la Matraca.' The track is representative of the new directions explored on Towering Poppies' latest release 'Yellow Red Blue,' out on November 4th 2016. Their new release retains the lyrical and song-like qualities the band is known for, while adding rich new layers and intriguing complexity as they explore a wider sound palette and more extended compositions. Jasmine Lovell-Smith: soprano saxophone; Josh Sinton: bass clarinet; Cat Toren: piano; Adam Hopkins: bass; Kate Gentile: drums. With special guests Cuarteto la Matraca Elena Makhnev: violin; Raúl Moreno: violin; Rolando Vidal: viola; Jesús Gutiérrez: cello.
