About the Album
Although pianist/composer Satoko Fujii has released well over 100 records over her 30 year career, she’s never composed an album for a string ensemble – until now. The stirring, powerful results are captured on Altitude 1100 Meters, the debut of her ensemble GEN, which is Japanese for “string.” As always Fujii’s daring compositions capture the full range of what can be done on the piano, and the four-piece string ensemble matches her virtuosity, making this one of the most unique and arresting recordings in her lengthy discography.
