About the Album

LAYERS is the second album of guitarist/composer Michiel Stekelenburg from The Netherlands. His debut album Hypnos was received with wide acclaim. As a result, the internationally renowned North Sea Jazz festival invited Michiel for their 2013 edition. His origins in rock music have influenced both his playing and his compositions. Critics consider his style as 'modern jazz, avant-garde, hot-blooded and sometimes brutal'. On the other hand, 'small, intense and melodical'. His new release LAYERS contains 11 new compositions performed by an 'all star' Dutch quintet, taking contemporary European jazz to an exciting level.
