About the Album

Inventive new arrangement of John Coltrane's masterpiece, GIANT STEPS, featuring Bill Barner (clarinet), Ruben de Ruiter (congas), Tobin Mueller (Rhodes electric piano, Trilian fretless bass). Mueller's unique ear transforms the piece into a jazz waltz, taking full advantage of Barner's smooth, warm tone and dexterous flights of fancy. A wonderfully romantic interlude amidst the high energy onslaught of blistering covers that make up Mueller's lasted CD release, PRESTIDIGITATION. Mueller & Barner have collaborated on several original forays in the past. The two of them taking on this masterpiece (that altered the very trajectory of jazz) is both entertaining and enlightening. The addition of hand percussion is an unexpected, wonderful touch.
