About the Album
Focussing on compositions by the Brazilian composer Antônio Carlos Jobim, this musical ensemble succeeds in bringing out the colours of these meanwhile classical tunes of the 60’s by arranging them in a contemporary Nu-jazz style. “Corcovado” (known in English as "Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars") from 1962, is a bossa nova song written by Antônio Carlos Jobim, who penned both the music and the original Portuguese lyric. The English lyric was written by Gene Lees. The original title refers to the Corcovado mountain in Rio de Janeiro. Typical for this production are the harmonic and rhythmic liberties. The tempo has a moderate bossa nova feel but the actual drum pattern is closer to a Bolero played on a tabla type drum. The double bass plays an easygoing syncopated groove while the acoustic guitar is more arpeggiated. The Fender Rhodes keyboard tastefully supports the vocal and is featured in the solo section. The track has elements of lounge, jazz and pop framed in a dream like setting.
