About the Album

'loving parents' is the subtle yet intricate second single to be taken from forthcoming album 'Wedding' by rising Berlin band Conic Rose. 'Wedding' builds on the idiosyncratic jazz/electronic charm of the band's 2023 debut 'Heller Tag', which found favour with Gilles Peterson, Mojo Magazine (4*) and Jazzwise among others.

Interweaving broad styles and influences, from jazz to post-rock and electronica, soaring instrumental cut 'loving parents' is, as the band put it, "a feeling with many facets. We leave space for the listener’s own images."

The forthcoming album's title 'Wedding' is no coincidence. The story of Conic Rose is closely intertwined with the Berlin neighborhood that gives the record its name. The band’s studio is located here, and both studio albums were created in the immediate vicinity of the small river Panke. This place settles over the music like a warming patina. “We spend a great deal of time there and experiment a lot in our studio,” recalls trumpeter Konstantin Döben. “When you meet regularly in one specific place over the course of a year and make your discoveries there, it’s impossible for it not to leave its mark on the music.”

Yet this encounter between a band and its surroundings is not a one-way street. The album feels as though the musicians and the neighborhood have invited one another to get to know each other. Not least because Wedding also means marriage. These marriages between a band and an urban landscape, a fading past and an emerging future, fear and hope - unfold in every single song on 'Wedding'.

The album drops on April 17th (we have a few singles to come first), but if you'd like an early listen (press and reviewers only please), just let me know and I'll send a link.

Praise for debut LP 'Heller Tag':

“Worked up via Bertram Burkert’s mournful guitar improvisations, the cut and thrust of city life seeps through this Berlin band’s teary debut… a masterful showcase for the mazy trumpet melodics and forlorn flugelhorns.” — Mojo Magazine ★★★★☆

“Absorbing its influences into an amorphous atmosphere of its own, this could soundtrack a lazy, stimulating hour in Germany’s beautifully bohemian capital.” — Jazzwise Magazine (UK)
