Tia FullerWilliam Paterson University Jazz RoomWayne, NJFebruary 13, 2011 Who is Tia Fuller? Oddly enough, the question came to mind after the conclusion of a performance at William Paterson University's Jazz Room. During the seventy-five minute set, Fuller deftly juggled a handful of identities: audience tour guide; purveyor of positive, uplifting messages; leader of a fierce band; composer and arranger; and, perhaps most importantly, a positively hellacious saxophonist. With the help of ...

Tia Fuller: Decisive Steps

Read "Decisive Steps" reviewed by AAJ Italy Staff

Tia Fuller: Stepping Forward Decisively

Read "Tia Fuller: Stepping Forward Decisively" reviewed by R.J. DeLuke

For saxophonist Tia Fuller, becoming a musician, and concentrating on jazz, seems almost preordained. After all, she came from a musical family who loved and performed jazz. She started playing piano at the age of 3. Music has always been in her life.

Tia Fuller: Decisive Steps

Read "Decisive Steps" reviewed by Larry Taylor

Tia Fuller makes strong statements with her solid saxophone and imaginative compositions in Decisive Steps. She surrounds herself here with female musician--drummer Kim Thompson, bassist Miriam Sullivan, and pianist Shamie Royston, who also plays Fender Rhodes. Prominent as well, are male guest stars: bassist Christian McBride, trumpeter Sean Jones, and vibraphonist Warren Wolf.

This is Fuller's second Mack Avenue release following 2007's Healing Space. Excelling in all the reeds, she prominently displays her alto and soprano work here. It is ...

Tia Fuller: Healing Space

Read "Healing Space" reviewed by Jim Santella

This program of original music by saxophonist Tia Fuller recalls the memorable 1960s Blue Note years when jazz had soul as well as a melody that you could remember the next day. Each piece relates to her album's theme, the healing power of music. She brings many different moods during the session, which all have something in common: each selection cries out with the soul-baring emotion.

Fuller comes from a musical family. Her mother and father, both professional ...

Tia Fuller: Pillar of Strength

Read "Pillar of Strength" reviewed by Terrell Kent Holmes

Saxophonist and flutist Tia Fuller stakes her claim to being one of the finest new musicians on the scene with her exhilarating debut as a leader, Pillar of Strength. Her top-shelf chops on reed and wind instruments are complemented by her formidable skills as a composer and arranger, and she has an excellent band along for the ride.Things jump off at the top with the burning title cut, a Marion Jones sprint, with Fuller playing an alto solo ...
