Satoko Fujii Orchestra New York: Fukushima

Read "Fukushima" reviewed by Karl Ackermann

Satoko Fujii's Orchestra New York has been together since their 1997 debut South Wind (Leo Lab/Libra). A “super group" by any standards, it has remained largely intact over the course of twenty years, bringing the ensemble to its latest release, Fukushima, a memorial suite. Satoko Fujii Orchestra New York: Fukushima

Read "Fukushima" reviewed by Dan McClenaghan

In 2011 an earthquake set into motion the events that would create a partial meltdown of fuel rods in the reactors in the nuclear power plant in Fukushima, Japan. Radiation was released. Qualche numero, dunque, per spiegare la genesi e la filosofia ispiratrice di quest'ultimo lavoro di Satoko Fujii che per l'occasione assembla una formazione, attiva dal 1997, con il meglio della scena ...

But the album’s title track is certainly no laughing matter, as it is dedicated to a person who would have become Noriega’s brother-in-law had he not committed suicide at the age of 28. Together with trumpeter Cuong Vu, guitarist Brad Shepik, and drummer Tom Rainey, Noriega (on alto sax and bass clarinet) formulates ...
