Kneebody: Chapters

by Mike Jacobs
Chapters--the title of Kneebody's 2019 release--has a certain appropriateness, as it definitely marks several new ones for the band. One being that lyric-oriented songs account for nearly half of the material on the album. Technically, vocals are nothing new to Kneebody. The band included one track with vocals on their 2002 proto-Kneebody album Wendel. Its 2009 collaborative effort with Theo Bleckmann, Twelve Songs of Charles Ives (Winter and Winter, 2008) was nominated for a Grammy and indeed their recent EP ...

by Claudio Bonomi
New York). by Ludovico Granvassu
In less than two decades Kneebody has established itself as reference band of forward-looking musicians. So this week we look back at their genre-bending work, and at the busy careers and eclectic collaborations of ...

by Mike Jacobs
Several questions came to mind when listening (repeatedly) to Kneebody's latest offering, Anti-Hero. 1. Why does this feel important?" Easy one. Anti-Hero is by far the strongest effort yet from arguably the most original collective to strafe the jazz world in recent history. All the pheromones that make Kneebody so attractive have never been fuller in force. Next question... 2. Is Kneebody really a band or some nefarious hive-mind experiment gone musical?"

by Mike Jacobs
Kneebody Johnny Brenda's Philadelphia PA April 7, 2017 Generally when a band announces that a group member is waylaid and can't make the gig, those in the audience start to resign themselves to an evening of subconscious apologetics--("It's not the same but pretty good for a guy subbing on short notice." or They're doing pretty well for being a man down.") But this is Kneebody... So when saxophonist Ben Wendel told ...
