Chris Botti: Setting the Pace to Chill

Read "Chris Botti: Setting the Pace to Chill" reviewed by Cheryl Hughey

Ambient or chill music was first declared a genre by composer Brian Eno in the late '70s. Eno’s style was more atmospheric, rather than obtrusive. With a softened tempo and subdued tones, his artistic statement of chill possessed a minimalistic quality. This would be the building blocks of New Age music for the future.

Chris Botti: December

Read "December" reviewed by Jim Santella

The holidays are upon us, and it's a time of year to enjoy and reflect. Chris Botti employs a pure, golden, open trumpet tone to invite the proper mood. These recordings will certainly appeal to all jazz fans but perhaps not to the uninitiated. At the other end of the spectrum are Kenny Gorelick's ...

Chris Botti: Night Sessions

Read "Night Sessions" reviewed by Jim Santella

His pure trumpet tone and fluid, conversational style makes contemporary trumpeter Chris Botti something special. Rooted in Miles Davis' later, electronic period and exhibiting Botti's creative ideas, Night Sessions offers smooth, romantic forces along with lighter, hip, upbeat rhythms. His fourth release as leader comes during a hiatus from nearly two years on the road with Sting's Brand New Day band. Botti and keyboardist/producer Kipper collaborated on a program that features tightly muted and open trumpet along with smooth sounds ...
