Thanks for the update. It’s always harder for me to track European releases.

Aloha Ken, I have been looking for a CD of Cannonball Adderley's 1970's album: 'Love, Sex and the Zodiac.' Is it available? Is 'Love, Sex and the Zodiac' the same as 'Soul Zodiac' by Nat Adderley?

They are two separate releases., neither of which has appeared on CD. 'Love, Sex and the Zodiac' is a date under Cannonball's name for Fantasy recorded circa 1974, while the latter was taped in 1972 but issued as 'Cannonball Adderley Presents the Nat Adderley Sextet Plus: Soul Zodiac.' The personnel is different on both tracks, though I'm not sure whether any of the compositions themselves are identical.

I would think it unlikely that either of these sessions would be reissued in the near future, but you never know.

I owned a CD called ‘Cocktails with Joey’ but lost it in a house fire. I don’t remember the name of the artist. Can you help me find a copy?

Several half.com dealers have a copy of this out-of-print CD by Joey Altruda, so you should be able to replace it easily at a low cost.

I am trying to track down a Decca Jazz set that was originally released as a 78 album in the early 1940s entitled ‘Kansas City Jazz’ it was part of a series that they hade put out that included ‘Chicago Jazz’ and ‘New Orleans Jazz’. When LPs came along they were reissued as LPs. I have the LP version of the ‘Chicago Jazz’ and have found the source for the ‘New Orleans Jazz.’ But I have had no luck with the ‘Kansas City Jazz’ album. I remember that Joe Turner, Pete Johnson as well as alto saxophonist Pete Brown. Any thoughts?

You might email [email protected] and ask them specifics about this listing: VARIOUS ARTISTS - Kansas City Jazz $19.99 JAZZ LP Decca. It sounds like the same compilation, though it's hard to say without seeing it.

Which label was Charles Tolliver's 'Paper Man' originally on? I've seen a couple of copies. One of them was on Arista, released in 1975, I believe. It was his first date as a leader, right, but was it his first record actually released?

Also, I'd like to know how rare exactly is Wah Wah Watson's Columbia lp Elementary, released back in 1977? Been looking for it, forever.

And last but not least, if you have any info on Roland Prince (he used to play with Buddy Terry, right?) and Mainstream Records in general, do tell! Any re-releases?

Charles Tolliver's Paper Man was recorded in 1968 and seems to have initially been issued by Polydor in England as 'Charles Tolliver and His All Stars.' It also appeared on Black Lion as 'Paper Man.' It was his first full date as a leader, though he also appears on two tracks on the 1965 Impulse compilation 'New Wave in Jazz.' I'm not clear as to who the leader is on that session.

I have no idea how rare Wah Wah Watson's LP Elementary is, but usually mid-1970s fusion records don't go for huge prices. I haven't yet run across a copy.

To my knowledge, Roland Prince only led two dates for Vanguard, both of which have been reissued by the import label Universe.

About a dozen or so Mainstream LPs were reissued in Columbia/Legacy's series in 1993. A few other titles have popped up on Mobile Fidelity and various import labels, though none of them seem to be in print at the moment.
