Tierra Y Alma is Latin Fusion-Jazz album inspired by musics of Mexico, Cuba, Bebop, and the modern Jazz movement. Tierra Y Alma’s blend of world rhythms, passionate improvisation, and rich sonic textures creates a cinematic, emotional and compelling listening experience. All of the compositions on Tierra Y Alma are inspired by the vibrant history, unique struggles and perspectives of being a Mexican American. Tierra Y Alma also features an array of talented guest artists including multi-Grammy winning percussionist, Luis Conte, Herbie Hancock Guitar competition semi finalist Will Brahm, Woodwind extraordinaire Matthew Valencia, and Multi-talented bassists and singer rising star Sophia Augustine. YOCOYA is a 5 piece Latin jazz fusion group comprised of Angelo Velasquez (drums, composer, leader) Kosta Kutay(sax) Josh Wong(Piano), Keelan Walters (guitar) and David Reynoso (Bass) YOCOYA plays original music inspired by the musics of Mexico, Cuba, American blues, and the Modern Jazz era. The musical vision of YOCOYA is to blend the harmonic and improvisational concepts of Jazz with the rhythmic and melodic phrasing of Mexican, and Latin American music to create compositions that are sophisticated and melodically driven. The goal of YOCOYA is to compose melodic, dramatic, and cinematic music that can be enjoyed by both sophisticated music enthusiasts and casual music enjoyers alike.
