Album Description

Spruce and Maple takes its name from the woods that shape his guitar’s sound—a nod to his devotion to capturing their natural warmth, resonance, and character. Maple and Spruce was recorded without prior rehearsal, and many of the tracks are first takes, capturing a loose, spontaneous energy. The album features some of Edwin’s favorite melodies, including seldom-heard gems like Jubilation by Junior Mance, The Mooche by Duke Ellington, and Lotus Blossom by Billy Strayhorn. The album also includes Edwin’s arrangement of Butterfly Lovers, reimagining the iconic Chinese violin concerto.
