Album Description
Rooted in the language of Mediterranean jazz, the album brings together lyricism, atmosphere and a chamber-like musical sensibility in a sound world shaped by subtle interplay and inner movement. With the oud at its centre, Mediterranean Echoes unfolds through a refined dialogue between composition and improvisation, drawing on Mediterranean memory, modal expression and contemporary jazz aesthetics.
The project began as a live concept before evolving into the album of the same name. Its character is intimate yet expansive, with a strong emphasis on texture, space and ensemble interaction. Rather than relying on density or overt virtuosity, the music develops through breath, phrasing and the natural pulse of the group, giving the album a distinctive voice within the wider field of Mediterranean jazz.
Mediterranean Echoes presents Alekos Vretos in a setting that is both deeply personal and internationally resonant: a contemporary musical statement shaped by the Mediterranean spirit, chamber-like clarity and a quietly expressive jazz sensibility.
