Album Description
Pianist/composer Ricardo Bacelar and percussionist Airto Moreira (Miles Davis, Chick Corea, Stan Getz), release their highly anticipated album, Maracanós, on Jasmin Music. The inspiration for the album emerged during the filming of a documentary that delves into the personal and musical journeys of Moreira and his partner, renowned vocalist Flora Purim, who is featured on the single “Voo da Tarde.”
Maracanós was recorded in 2025 at Bacelar's Jasmin Studios in Fortaleza, Brazil. The album fuses acoustic and digital instruments to present a wide tonal mix of rhythmic and harmonic music, blending several genres over eight tracks. Rio de Janeiro’s Kalimera String Quartet is featured on two tracks, with arrangements by Liduíno Pitombeira. The single "Pé no Chã” is complemented by a dynamic video adapted to the music, which is being released on April 24, 2026.
The full album is scheduled for release in the U.S. in September 2026, when Airto will be receiving a special award from the National Endownment for the Arts, becoming a 2026 NEA Jazz Master in a ceremony to be held at Walt Disney Music Hall in Los Angeles, CA.
A full-lenght documentary movie, tentatively titled "Flora & Airto: The Revolutionary Sound," will be premiered at the Rio International Film Festival, in October 2026, and commercially released in the U.S. in March 2027.
