Album Description
Live in Denton, Texas | Sarah Griego & the “Fun O’Clock” Lab Band
Live in Denton, Texas is the latest release from the “Fun O’Clock” Lab Band, a close-to-twenty-piece jazz orchestra founded and led by arranger, composer, and conductor Sarah Griego. Recorded live, the album captures the band’s high-energy, big band sound with a pop-minded sense of fun. It opens with “Sassy,” which begins with a “Welcome to Jazz Airlines” MC voiceover, setting the tone for an evening that is playful but serious about the craft.
The band’s name is a nod to the UNT One O’Clock Lab Band, where the ensemble took shape.
“Sure it’s fun! But at the same time, this is well-crafted music played by seriously talented musicians!”
Alan Baylock, Composer/Arranger, Director, The UNT One O’Clock Lab Band®
“The “Fun O’Clock” is some great energy! “Loud and proud!” I love it!”
Benny Green, Jazz Messenger
“(Sarah’s) a very talented arranger, very musical, and full of great energy.”
Bruce Broughton, Emmy award winning composer
“Sarah Griego puts the FUN in Fun O’Clock - her writing gives the band endless ideas to bring to life, and there’s so much personality injected into the orchestration…Fun indeed!”
Benny Benack III, Emmy Nominated Vocalist & Trumpeter
