Album Description

This performance captures an intimate set at The Junk Bar, fresh off performances at Wangaratta Festival of Jazz and the Sydney Women's International Jazz Festival. The concert was a celebration the groups recent tour, culminating in an explosive live performance featuring old and new compositions. --- Shamin is an experimental jazz duo based in Brisbane, Australia. The group formed off the back of a recording session for Martin Kay’s Forage and explores original composition, unconventional rhythm and timbre drawing influence from Matt Mitchell, David Binney, Dan Weiss, Mark Guiliana, Kate Gentile, Vijay Iyer and Tyshawn Sorey to list a few. Comprised of Sophie Min and Benjamin Shannon, Shamin was established in 2018 and released their debut album ‘Fine Gnaw’ in April 2019 to local and international acclaim. The duo has a penchant for irregular form, rhythm and rich harmony juxtaposed against expansive improvisational passages and extended techniques. SHAMIN have performed at venues around Australia including the Wangaratta Festival of Jazz, Sydney Women’s International Jazz Festival, Jazzlab, Bohemian Grove, JMI and The Junk Bar. The band recently shortlisted for the 2023 Art Music Awards in the Performance of the Year Jazz and Improvised Music Category.
