Album Description
A Tribute To Fred Katz is the latest album by Czarakcziew and the Jazz Cats, dedicated to the pioneer of jazz cello, Fred Katz. The recording is the result of years of research and deep personal fascination by the band’s leader, Paweł Czarakcziew, who sought to reintroduce the legacy of this remarkable but often overlooked artist. Fred Katz, a co-founder of the Chico Hamilton Quintet and a film music composer, collaborated with such icons as Tony Bennett and Carmen McRae, yet his genius largely remained in the shadows. Czarakcziew, after dedicating years to uncovering Katz’s life story, accessed previously unknown archives and recorded the album in Los Angeles with his band, featuring American artists including Katz’s son, Hyman, and Debbi Ebert. A Tribute To Fred Katz offers a unique exploration of the rich, soulful sound of the jazz cello, reviving the depth, elegance, and spirit of 1950s and 1960s jazz.
