Have you ever exprienced a Mardi Gras in New Orleans or do you remember when you were a kid and thrilled to the bigger than big sounds of a parade marching band at a fourth of July parade? Well if you do remember or have a taste for this kind of "Fanfare Music" you will love Your Last Chance To Dance by the native of New Orleans Martching Brass Band "The Original Pin Stripe Brass Band ".

Recorded in 1994 by: Orleans Records, 828 Royal Street, #536 New Orleans, LA, 70116 this CD is a must for the Traditional New Orleans music enthusiast/student. I discovered these (8) New Orleans Marching Band members in Chicago at the outdoor music arena " Ravinia" in marching performace before the " Maynard Ferguson" show/clinic. I for one got caught up in the marching and singing along with this Mardi Gras type of event the Original Pin Stripe Brass Band offers. Simply Fantastic !!

After meeting the entire band, (these guys were hip to talk with about music in general) I purchased their CD. I for one enjoy and understand the musical improvisations that are represented in the aforementioned CD.Mixing both the gospel of the south and the traditional New Orleans blues/ dixie marching brass band sounds, this CD will become a classic in time just like those of Louis Armstrong and also like the Chicago style jazz of the 1920's with the title song " Last Chance To Dance" reminiscent of McKinneys Cotton Picker's"= swingin' ragtime / dixie/ honkytonk type of early jazz, way before it's time and now only available in rare (treasured) recordings.

Imagine sitting at an outdoor theatre sipping a wine and relaxing waiting for the music to begin. All of the sudden your heart is pounding at your chest with the beat of a marching bass drum, you see a voodoo dressed sort of guy leading the band with a multi-colored umbrella up and down, trumpets wailing, tubas and clarinets swinging, it's a party!!!

I am quite partial to track # 3 " The Second Line " because the band has chosen to write a song about a dance that I par-took in, when in New Orleans at "The Mardi Gras" . This cut features Lead Vocalist / snare drummer Herbert A. McCarver,111. One must remind themselves that this is a New Orleans Marching Band that kicks butt!! Besides being superb improvisational musicians, "The Original Pin Stripe Brass Band" are somewhat animated to watch or shall I say:" Larger Than Life Itself" when their music is exprienced in a live performance. The musical word "tight" comes to mind in a matter of seconds to a viewieng/hearing musician.

If you would like: I could connect you with the proper people to obtain a copy of this all out jam session and audiance participation CD. You be the judge, can you not tap your feet when listenning to this CD or what?? A combination of gospel/ funk/ marching/dixie/swing/cajun/soul/rap ? FYI: These guyz all dress like New Orleans Taxi Drivers with the cap and slacks etc.,But don't let that fool ya... All are down to earth musicians except when they are performing" Higher And Higher" . Hey, I forgot to mention the blues these dudes blow or maybe I should call it " Great Jungle Boogie Music " like Jazz Legend: Danny Barker".
