About this image
When Midway decided to record a demo in Scotsman's road, Bernard, Kevin's brother asked Fergus would he be interested in bringing down his recording equipment and doing the recording, to which he agreed. Bernard would join us on the recording on violin as a fifth member of Midway. Fergus was really into Midway and was impressed. We played quite a few gigs after and then mid summer, Kevin left Midway, to much consternation and chagrin. Kevin was persona non grata as the band had a lot of potential. Then, Kevin called me, met me in person and laid out his reasons for leaving Midway and joining Interference. At that juncture, in what I allude to as Mark II Interference, they did not have a guitarist and Kevin asked me to join, I always liked Kevin as a person and as a musician. I went along to Bruce and was in. I was the guitarist on the Bruce Sessions, these were recordings the Interference made in what is now Bruce College at the top of Patrick's Hill, the last Interference recordings before relocating to Dublin (Fergus father owned it or had a lease on it). It was a quartet with Fergus, Kevin, Myself and Cal McCarthy (I had a side project with Cal and Paul Von Mensenkampff already). Fergus and Kevin were living in Bruce College at this time and spending many hours composing, Kevin's mum would give me a lift up and bring food and fresh clothes to them, I would stay over occasionally and was also involved in the writing process. This was mid to late summer, then Kevin and Fergus said, they were leaving Cork and relocating to Dublin and am I in... I had to demur as I had the leaving and had plans to go to Los Angeles when completed.
