UDC JAZZforum to Feature Jazz Music Specialist and Veteran Broadcaster Paul Anthony

Washington, D.C.—The University of the District of Columbia Felix E. Grant Jazz Archives welcomes jazz music specialist and veteran radio broadcaster Paul Anthony to the JAZZforum series on April 13, 2011 from 7-9 PM.

A familiar voice to Washington, D.C. listeners for over 45 years, Paul Anthony produced shows devoted to jazz for radio station WRC in Washington, DC (1966 to 1972); National Public Radio (1972 to 1979); for radio station WGMS in Washington, DC (1980 to 1990); and for SIRIUS Satellite Radio's Pure Jazz 72. His extensive television announcing includes the programs “Washington Week" and “America's Most Wanted," in addition to many PBS-TV and Discovery Channel programs. He is the embodiment of WETA-TV's on-air fundraising efforts, a job he has held for over 30 years.

Mr. Anthony donated a major collection to the Felix E. Grant Jazz Archives in 2006. The “Paul Anthony Collection" contains more than 5,100 LP records, almost entirely of American jazz artists of the mid- to late- 20th century. The recordings were acquired throughout his extended career as a radio broadcaster.

The JAZZforum series is the research and outreach initiative of the Felix E. Grant Jazz Archives. These regular events feature lively presentations on diverse aspects of jazz from authors, musicians, educators, and a wide range of scholars. Presentations are held in UDC's state-of-the-art Recital Hall and are recorded for broadcast on UDC-TV and for later access on the website of the Jazz Archives.

All JAZZforum events are FREE and OPEN to the public. The UDC Recital Hall is located in Building 46-West on the UDC campus at 4200 Connecticut Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20008. The campus is easily accessible on Metro's Red Line, Van Ness/UDC station. For more information call (202) 274-5803 or email [email protected].
