TRIBECA's Lost Jazz Shrines is the only forum in NYC that celebrates the hottest jazz venues lost to NYC history. This year's series commemorates Art D'Lugoff's Village Gate, which reigned for 36 years as the “number one jazz showcase in the world," as the Village Voice stated in '94.

Three concerts honor the legends of the Gate, from pianist and composer RANDY WESTON who performed at the Gate regularly, to guitarist LARRY CORYELL memorializing the legacy of CHARLES MINGUS, who premiered his jazz-narrative composition “Scenes in the City" at the Gate, one of the club's most popular performances. Our series concludes with vocalist CARLA COOK capturing the music of NINA SIMONE and ARETHA FRANKLIN. “Nina At The Gate" was recorded live at the Gate in 1961, early in Ms. Simone’s career, while Ms. Franklin made her New York club debut at the Gate.

Free humanities events preceed each concert, with special interviews that are not to be missed!
