Tickets On Sale Now for September 16th Event

Mayor Douglas H. Palmer announced today that the 2006 Trenton Jazz Fest will return to the State House Complex with headline performances Saturday, September 16 by Jeffrey Osborne, KEM, Brian Culbertson, Pieces of a Dream with Cindy Bradley, and Miles Jaye.

“This is a remarkable lineup for what has become the best outdoor jazz festival in our region," said Mayor Palmer. “Last year, we found that the area behind the State House Complex - across from the front of the War Memorial - is a natural amphitheater with great acoustics and plenty of room for food vendors and that relaxed, outdoor jazz fest atmosphere that our patrons have loved for so many years. This year, the Jazz Festival Executive Committee has outdone itself with an incredible lineup."

Tickets went on sale Thursday, June 1st, and may be purchased at the War Memorial Box Office from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays; by calling the box office at 609-984-8400; by using a credit card to charge by phone using the toll-free line 1-800-955-5566; or by making the purchase online at www.TICKETS.com. In addition, cash-only ticket purchases can be made Monday through Saturday between 9:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. at Sound of Trenton, 45 East State Street.

“Jazz music, accompanied by jazz fest food - fish and barbeque and other grilled favorites - is one of the great delights of the summer in Trenton," said Len Pucciatti, City Director of Inspections and a member of the Jazz Festival Executive Committee. “We are delighted at the balance we have achieved between the favorite traditions of this festival and the new stars coming to the capital city this year."

The Jazz Fest Executive Committee is composed of Mayor Palmer, Chief of Staff Rene Haynes, Director of Recreation, Natural Resources, and Culture Francis E. Blanco, former city attorney Rocky Peterson, and Pucciatti. This year, the committee decided to make available premium seating nearest the stage for $45, while regular seats will be $35 - and everyone is welcome to bring their own lawn chairs, Pucciatti said.

The sponsors for the 2006 festival - as well as the local performers who traditionally open the Saturday show at 2 p.m. - will be announced shortly, Pucciatti said. In addition, the committee once again is working to arrange a special Friday night traditional jazz program at the Trenton Marriott - and details about that extra program feature will be publicized soon, as well.

“Due to the increasing popularity of our jazz fest, we wanted to make sure and get the date announced as early as possible so people can begin planning to join us September 16th for the best way we know to cap off the summer," Mayor Palmer said. “The Jazz Fest Committee has a goal of bringing the most superlative music for the lowest price possible - and we have a great track record. Last year, we had War, Stephanie Mills, Chris Botti, and Jonathan Butler. In 2004, we brought Erykah Badu, Roy Ayers, Earl Klugh, and Down to the Bone, while in 2003 we had Al Jarreau, Yolanda Adams, Peter White, and Najee.
