Sat Dec 02
9:00PM & 10:30PM - RYAN SCOTT AND SEAN WOOD
(Ryan Scott, Vocals and Guitar;Christopher Hoffman, Cello;Matt Klimer, Percussion;Sean Wood, Vocals, Guitar and Piano;Patrick Hay, Guitar;Dave Bryant, Piano;Dan Loomis, Bass;Joel Arnow, Drums) Bred in the hills of California's Monterey Bay, Ryan Scott has been handling the world of jazz guitar since he was a kid. Ryan moved to NYC in 2001 and took up with cookers in the East. One steady gig with new-blues chanteuse, Pyeng Threadgill at L.E.S's Anyway Cafe brought our man to the attention of shady A&R types from CrystalTop Music and the rest is hist. Tired of the narrow-minded traditionalist strictures of straight-ahead bop, Ryan has been looking outside that box the last few years. He melds a technical jazz background into pop structures with honest, pitch-perfect lyrics to create funky, emotional tunes that ooze heart and soul and head right for your chest.

A California native, Sean Wood was born and raised in San Francisco. He later moved to Folsom, California-home to the state maximum security Folsom Prison. This is where his family still calls home and from where he draws majority of his musical inspiration. Wood was a classically trained musician first, on the violin since the age of 8, but after hearing a Carmen McCrae record in his junior year of high school, started pursuing jazz. This is where he continued, and with a culmination of his studies in the field, received a Bachelors Degree in Jazz Studies from the New England Conservatory of Music in 2005. Wood's music is definitely his own, predominantly drawing on his exposure to folk, soul, bluegrass and jazz. He is currently recording his first full length album, to be finished in spring 2007. (Victor Prieto, accordion;Carlo DeRosa, bass;Mark Ferber, drums) Accordionist and composer, Victor Prieto is revolutionizing the way that the accordion is played by creating new sounds and techniques for this instrument. His music embraces different tendencies that come from jazz, Tango, Classical and Celtic roots enriched with new rhythms and colors. He is the creator of a new technique for the accordion called “chord approach on both hands," which creates rich and elaborate harmonies. Cover $10
