TLAB
Leif Arntzen, trumpet; Ryan Blotnick, guitar; Michael Bates, bass; Miles Arntzen, drums With influences ranging from Fela Kuti, Davis, Armstrong, Dorham, and Coltrane, Cash, even Riley, Glass, Leif's sound and music aspires to transcend. Leif made his deal at the cross roads as a child to play the horn, committed to creating his own sound and technique. His work in developing melody and rhythm, improvised arrangements, and group timbre is his nature, and his message is complete. Not many players play to his range, requiring solid jazz, folk, and classical fundamentals, all disciplines are welded to journey to and from the unknown. Ryan Blotnick and Michael Bates are just such capable players, and his son Miles Arntzen on drums completes the chemistry with rhythmic freedom and forward motion. At once classic and modern, the music is all encompassing, realizing, and free. There's nothing known quite like it, but instantly well-known when it finds the ear.
