To: Listings/Critics/Features From: JAZZ PROMO SERVICES Press Contact: JIM EIGO, [email protected]
The Stryker / Slagle Band at Blues Alley Thur. June 9th Dave Stryker-gtr Steve Slagle-sax Ed Howard-bass Steve Williams-drums 1073 Wisconsin Ave. NW / 202-337-4141 http://bluesalley.com/
Guitarist Dave Stryker and saxophonist Steve Slagle are a rarity in jazz having stuck together while developing a group sound for close to 20 years. They have just recorded their first live CD entitled “Live at the Jazz Standard" due in the fall on the Zoho Music label. In the meantime they will also be playing music from Stryker's brand new CD “Big City" (Mel Bay Records). This gig will feature bassist Ed Howard (bassist on both new CDs), and drummer Steve Williams. (BTW both are Washington natives and Shirley Horn's rhythm team.)
“Get ready for a tag team of jazz heavyweights, a pair of soulmates who bring some of the hippest sounds the Big Apple has to offer." Tom Surowicz, Minneapolis Star Tribune
If only every band's debut could be as engaging as this new release…vibrant, modern originals played with elan. -Zan Stewart Newark Star Ledger
