Microscopic Septet will perform September 6 at the Gershwin Hotel in New York City. The band will perform 3 sets, starting at 7:00 PM. The Gershwin Hotel is at 7 East 27th St. (between Madison Ave. and Fifth Ave.) in Manhattan.

An admission charge of $20 allows attendance at any or all of the sets. Audiences can arrive at any time and stay until the estimated 10:30 PM ending time. Tickets can be purchased at the door upon arrival, and are not sold in advance. For directions to the Gershwin Hotel, call (212) 545-8000.

The concert will feature music from The Microscopic Septet's critically acclaimed CD, Friday the 13th: The Micros Play Monk (Cuneiform Records), a collection of inventive arrangements of Thelonious Monk compositions as reimagined by Phillip Johnston and Joel Forrester, the band's principal composers/arrangers. Also featured in the concert will be highlights from bands's enormous book of innovative, swinging and amusing original compositions.

The band features Phillip Johnston (soprano saxophone), Joel Forrester (piano), Don Davis (alto saxophone), Mike Hashim (tenor saxophone), Dave Sewelson (baritone saxophone), David Hofstra (bass) and Richard Dworkin (drums).

The Microscopic Septet's recent honors include the #5 position in the Jazz Group category in the 2011 DownBeat Critics Poll. The band is perhaps best known to general audiences for creating and performing the theme song of the long-running National Public Radio program, “Fresh Air With Terry Gross."

The Microscopic Septet's concerts in the United States are organized with the assistance of Cuneiform Records and Scott Foster Management.
