The Jazz Museum In Harlem Announces Special Series Honoring Harlem Heroes

New York, NY (June 15, 2004) The Jazz Museum in Harlem proudly continues its bi-weekly series, “HARLEM SPEAKS," this summer with a tribute to the work of one of Harlem's treasures, trumpeter Joe Wilder. Wilder played in the best big bands (Basie, Lunceford, Goodman) and eventually became a first-call musician on Broadway, recording studios and the jazz scene. Executive Director Loren Schoenberg has launched the series to honor persons keeping the flame of jazz alive in Harlem. Dancer Jacqui “Tajah" Murdock danced at the Apollo Theater early in her career, and is also a historian of jazz-related dance.
