The 7 - 23rd February it is time for the 14th edition of the Winter Jazz Fest (in Danish: Vinterjazz). Vinterjazz is the only nationwide music festival in Denmark—keep an eye on the local venues to check what is on the program in your neighborhood.

The 2014 edition of Vinterjazz is bigger than ever, presenting more than 400 concerts, spread well to 75 venues across the country, which is a significant improvement on the last year's 300 concerts at 60 venues. The purpose of the festival is to focus on the Danish jazz venues presenting jazz the entire year around and to set up new meetings between musicians and audience locally. Each venue, whether it's a regular jazz club, an association, a theatre or a cafe, contributes to the program with their particular artistic profile, and the result is a multi-colored national jazz festival including both international and Danish acts.

The printed program is now to be found in venues, libraries and cafes throughout Denmark. The line up for Vinterjazz 2014 is online at Jazz.dk and the official Vinterjazz app ”Live Jazz Denmark" (free download at Google Play and App Store)

The program includes international headliners, the best of Danish jazz and music from the progressive Danish underground scene. Vinterjazz offers a great opportunity to experience the recent recipients of Danish Music Awards Jazz 2013, like Jacob Anderskov, Emil de Waal + Aske Drasbæk and Søren Ulrik Thomsen & Det Glemte Kvarter, and theme concerts, such as Future Sound of Jazz, Classic Jazz Tributes, Jazz'n'Poetry and Jazz for Kids.

In particular, keep an eye out for the international (guest) stars that can be seen both in Jutland and Funen, and in the capital, such as the New York saxophonist Tim Berne, the Israeli-American trumpeter Avishai Cohen, the Ethiopian group Fendika, the renowned Italian pianist Enrico Pieranunzi with DR Big Band, the Jakob Bro Danish-American tentet with Andrew D'Angelo and Chris Speed fronted by Danish poet Peter Laugesen, and Sinne Eeg Danish -American trio with Martin Schack and Larry Koonse. In the metropolitan area of Copenhagen, there is a higher density of concerts and a full program on the city's large and small jazz clubs, as well as special venues, such as The Royal Library, Koncertkirken, Kulturhuset Islands Brygge, Koncerthuset etc.
