The BandA ecLectics is an 11-piece ensemble consisting of musicians with jazz, world and classical music tendencies and affiliations. These professional musicians will be performing a set of original compositions with a fresh and unique sound, created by Petros Sakelliou. The musical material involves finely composed orchestrations as well as improvisations, arranged organically into a whole that vibrates originality.
The instrumentation is very unique as well, as it employs timbers with a variety of references, summing up into an eclectic ensemble with an intriguing personality and vibe.
The group, and its leader, pianist and composer, Petros Sakelliou have recently (October 2007) received important critical acclaim honored with the 2007 Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz Composition Competition Prize. The band performed the winning composition in front of 3,600 people at the Kodak Theater in L.A.
Continuing to work hard into 2008 the interest towards the ensemble has been growing rapidly, through concerts and performances in Boston and New York City.
