A panel discussion on Sunday, August 11, 2002, from 4-7 PM, will explore the trend-setting influences of Jazz on music in the local community. Presented by Self-Help Graphics in tandem with the Art of Jazz exhibit, the panel will be moderated by Steve Isoardi, Music Oral Historian at UCLA. Featured panelists include Roberto Miguel Miranda, John Avila, Christopher Garcia, David Urquidi, Bobby Bradford, and others. Following the discussion will be a live performance featuring the Latin Jazz quintet, Arkestra Clandestina, and other local musicians in an informal Jazz Jam.
An invitation is extended to The Art of Jazz exhibit opening reception on Saturday, August 3, 2002. The exhibit opens on August 1, 2002 and will run until August 25, 2002.
The premiere will offer a stunning variety of artistic reflections on the Jazz idiom, honoring this innovative, revolutionary, and dynamic music form. The emergence of Jazz during the 20th century has reverberated deeply in the wide cultural milieu of Los Angeles. Its profound influence is richly acknowledged in these new works. All events are free and open to the public.
