On October 7th and 8th the International Massimo Urbani Award will be held in Manhattan during the Italian Jazz Days 2011 with Cristiano Arcelli as the official representative of the award, appearing on stage at Dizzy's Club Coca Cola, inside the Jazz at Lincoln Center performing arts complex. The saxophonist from Perugia will be the guest soloist, playing with the Roberto Occhipinti Trio, a musical line-up that includes Roberto Occhipinti on double-bass, Manuel Valera on the piano and Dafnis Prieto on drums.

This is an excellent opportunity for enhancing the international visibility of an award that fosters the promotion of its artists and keeps a window open to the world of jazz overseas. In fact the Massimo Urbani Award has discovered and promoted some of the most interesting international solo jazz performers. A prestigious competition for jazz soloists, it was established in the memory of the late great jazzman who brought some of the most interesting and promising new talents from around the world to the attention of international audiences, and who made a great contribution to the development of their artistic careers and to the dissemination of contemporary jazz. Thus we are now following in his footsteps on a musical journey from Italy to the world and back, looking for talented soloists all over the world with the aim of promoting the best of them on an international stage.

At present, the 2012 edition is already being planned and it will be particularly focused on Europe, giving musicians from the old continent and beyond the opportunity to perform in Italy.
