The faint sound of a trumpet could be heard and it was finally discovered in a dirty linen closet. Jack had covered himself in old sheets and blankets so he could practice. When a nurse opened the door, he asked her to 'turn out the lights.'
True story. I was in the same band.
Jack sensed his day job was to be in the Air Force, but his real job was spent at Howard Rumsey's Light House. He is a great guy and a great trumpet player.
The title, Trying to Get Good" is reminiscent of a line in the film, Young Man With A Horn, Someday, when I am really good...." Throughout the film was heard the music of Harry James. Jack plays James as James would have played Jack."
