Swiss-based Soundslates.com (beta) is an online collaborative music-making community that's one part social media platform and one part creative exchange platform. The service offers a simple collaboration tool for musicians, producers, songwriters, and sound professionals around the world to contribute to and complete each other's tracks.

“I was frustrated by not being able to find exactly the right person to share my musical vision with, who was passionate about their work and simply wanted to make music together," said Pierre Seylan, 22, founder of Soundslates.com“Sometimes you're just missing vocals, a beat or a riff. I'd be quite happy to pay an unsigned but talented musician for just the right sound to complete my composition."

Once one creates their personal profile on the site, artists can open projects called “collabs" and post job offers, or browse the community to build a composition as a group. Alternatively, community members can search “collabs" and jobs to offer their expertise. Soundslates.com does not integrate any recording software, however this does leave some flexibility for the artists to develop sounds using their preferred tools and then uploading the files to the platform.

Presently, Soundslates.com is based on a freemium model, with a special “free for life" offer for the first 100 artists who start a “collab." Plans for 2012 include a secure online market for finished compositions or partial sequences, as well as providing basic licensing for musical creations.
