Sones de Mexico's New CD Wins Silver Parents' Choice Honor

Sones de Mexico Ensemble was recently awarded the Parents' Choice Silver Honorfor their new album, Fiesta Mexicana: Mexican Songs & Stories for Ninos & Ninas and their Papas & Mamas.

Fiesta Mexicana is a bilingual, double-album for children and their parents that features old Mexican folk songs, stories of Mexican folklore with outrageous characters and special guest appearances by Dan Zanes and Ella Jenkins.

Sones actually began performing this educational program in Chicago schools in 1994. Taking audiences of all ages on a musical tour of Mexico, the program (and CD) incorporates a divers range of acoustic folk music and folklore from several regions of the country, even including lesser-known Aztec, Mayan, Zoque and P'urhepecha traditions.

From the Parents' Choice website:
The Parents' Choice Silver Honors are given to excellent products that, like the Gold Award winners, are designed to entertain and help children develop universally ethical attitudes, and rigorous standards and skills. Silver Honors come in a high second with one or more evaluating groups. Silver Honors are highly prized -- like the Gold Awards -- for production and human values.
