The Sunken Garden Amphitheatre is located on the 9 acre estate of Nesselrod on the New River-Bed and Breakfast in Radford, VA. This newly renovated amphitheatre hosts concerts once a month throughout the Spring, Summer, and Fall.

The Sunken Garden Amphitheatre is described as “secluded and magical, and providing the perfect environment to stage and produce the wonderment and experience of live music."

Some of the featured bands that have performed in the Sunken Garden Amphitheatre include blues legend Jimmy Thackery, Chatham County Line, The Infamous Stringdusters, Paul Thorn, and North Carolina's funk stars Yo Momma's Big Fat Booty Band. Nesselrod prides itself on bringing some of the greatest national, regional, and local music in the rock, jazz, blues, funk, reggae, and bluegrass styles.

MUSICIANS:

Sol Roots is a world class guitarist and vocalist who creates a stylish blend of fiery rock, deep blues, and raw funk and draws from an incredible background of musical touring. Sol has performed around the world with roots, funk, jazz, and blues legends and has backed up musical heavyweights such as Taj Mahal and Kenny Wayne Shepherd on stage and in the studio. Sol, who has lived in southwest Virginia, has a special interest in the area. “I'm dedicated to doing all I can to enrich and promote the culture and entertainment in southwest Virginia, and we are very honored to work with venues and organizations, such as Nesselrod, who focus on raising the quality of life in the region" Sol said via a phone interview.

Sol brings an all star cast of musicians together for the concert at Nesselrod on the New. “King" George Penn is a solid drummer featured on Corey Harris's newest CD release and and has also worked with great regional favorites such as Jah Works, Hopehop, The Yams from Outer Space, and the Electric Woodshed. Bassist, Jake Dempsey, has worked with some of the greatest Virginia funk and jazz bands. Sol, King George, and Jake D are all featured on the recent album “Freedom" along with guest musicians from Hobex, Squirrel Nut Zippers, the Alliens, The Seed, and more.

Triscale is a powerhouse funk-rock trio birthed in 2006 that draws on legendary influences to create a unique sound. The idea was to mix rock with funk, throw a little jazz and reggae on the top and serve it up with a side of soul. Triscale branches out live, using the music to take the crowd on a ride you can lose yourself in. When asked to describe the sound front man guitarist Eric Steele put it in this way: “It's kind of like a big cooking experiment- we take the energy at the venue and the crowd's mood and just start mixing that info into the music to see what happens from there. Every single person at the show and the feeling of each moment has the ability to affect the music, varying the recipe. You might get soul food and homebrew or a tripped-out sci-fi experiment but it's cool either way because it's all delicious." This is one band that just loves to play... a rare breed in this business... always living in the moment that is the music.
