Tickets are on sale now for six headliner shows announced for the nine-day Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival (XRIJF) to be held June 23 to July 1, 2017. This marks the festival's 16th Edition.
The Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival is one of the nation's premier jazz festivals, navigating all genres of creative improvised music since 2002 and drawing more than 200,000 music lovers annually. The nine-day festival presents 1500+ artists, 325+ ticketed and free shows at 19 diverse indoor and outdoor venues- all within walking distance of each other—in the Rochester, NY East End Cultural and Entertainment District.
“Every June we bring world-renowned artists to Rochester from around the globe," said John Nugent, XRIJF's artistic director and co-producer. “For our headliners this year we welcome nine-time Grammy winner Sheryl Crow; R&B icon Mavis Staples, the recent recipient of the prestigious Kennedy Center Honors; and iconic UK art rock group, King Crimson, led by the incomparable Robert Fripp, who makes a rare appearance on American shores. British soul goddess, Joss Stone, will bring a powerhouse band along with her amazing vocals. Joss Stone has been obsessed with soul music since she was a little girl. By the time she was in her early teens she had begun to intuitively hone her now trademark gravelly-but-lustrous vocals by singing along to Aretha's Franklin's Greatest Hits. She began pursuing a singing career at thirteen, securing a record deal at 15, and recording her star-making debut album, The Soul Sessions, which was released in 2003. Ten years on from those stunning debut sessions, Joss decided to bring things full circle and revisit where it all began—with her follow up to that multi million selling debut The Soul Sessions Volume 2. A stunning exercise in vocal poise, passion and power, the album was well received globally and charted in the Top 20 both in the UK and in the US, garnering some of the best her reviews for many years. 2014 will see her complete work on her seventh studio album and start out on her most ambitious project to date—the Total World Tour.

It's the fall of 1963 and Maceo Parker is standing out back of the Coliseum in Greensboro' North Carolina trying to catch a glimpse of his idol, Ray Charles. He's looking for anyone he would recognize from the band but all he sees is strangers. Out of the corner of his eye he sees the flare of a lighter. Instantly Maceo recognizes Hank Crawford, the epitome of cool in his leather jacket and matching boots. It is nearly midnight but Crawford still has his sunglasses on. The back door of the Coliseum opens and the rest of the band spill out. Then Ray Charles emerges and in an awestruck moment the young saxophonist makes a promise to himself and a silent one to Ray Charles: “one of these days you're all gonna know me."

Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox was founded by pianist and arranger Scott Bradlee in 2009. The ensemble reimagines contemporary pop, rock and R&B hits in the style of various yesteryears, from swing to doo-wop, ragtime to Motown—or, as Bradlee himself puts it, “pop music in a time machine." The band parlayed a series of YouTube videos shot in Bradlee's Queens living room into massive success, accruing more than 500 million YouTube views and over 2 million subscribers, an appearance on “Good Morning America," and performances at packed houses across the globe.

Gospel and R&B icon Mavis Staples commanding voice and confident showmanship is legendary! In the early 1960's she caught the eye of folk hero Bob Dylan, and the two briefly dated before their paths diverged in the middle of the decade. Staples recently accompanied Dylan on his summer 2016 tour, treating ticket buyers to a powerhouse double billing that combines the best of folk and R&B. In concert Staples is a force of nature, delivering her world-wise lyrics with plenty of passion and attitude while her backing band kicks out red-hot grooves!

Their ground- breaking debut In The Court Of The Crimson King (1969) described by Pete Townshend as “an uncanny masterpiece", began a career that has spanned four decades and influenced many bands and individuals including Yes, Genesis, Tool, and Porcupine Tree.
