The Seattle Women's Jazz Orchestra will be joined at Tula's with Gabriel Alegria and Un Rezo, an Afro-Peruvian jazz group from Lima, Peru. Gabriel (trumpet) is bringing this phenomenal group to Seattle as part of their first West Coast tour. SWOJO is proud to present Un Rezo to our Seattle audience and to share the stage with them here in the United States, as we did in Lima in 2003.

Info about Gabriel and Un Rezo:
Gabriel Alegria and the Un Rezo Jazz Sextet. Complete with cajons, quijadas and zapateo dancing, Un Rezo, featuring master percussionist Hugo Alcazar, has placed Afro-Peruvian rhythmic concepts and the legacy of African-influenced music from coastal Peru solidly into mainstream jazz language for the first time. The importance of this has been compared to the Brazilian and Cuban musical influences which changed jazz music in the 20th century.

For the first time ever Afro-Peruvian jazz music will be heard throughout the West Coast. Audiences will be enraptured by the sound of Afro-Peruvian jazz music performed live. Much like the popularity achieved by Brazilian and Afro-Cuban music when it first came to the United States, the Afro-Peruvian sound, complete with cajones and zapateo dancing, is the latest sound to come to the jazz world.
