After his debut release, The Void (ARC-2437) with his primary working ensemble, “Sound Reformation" on the Artists Recording Collective (ARC) label, the young New York based saxophonist, composer and educator, Darryl Yokley continues his scene building efforts. Yokley is among the new generation artists who are combining skill sets to build a career.

“I'll be at Smalls Jazz Club with my band Sound Reformation, hosting their Round Midnight session as part of our debut performance at the club, and we are very excited about this performance. We will be performing music from our debut album THE VOID plus some new music that will be recorded on the second album later this year," Yokley stated.

In April, Yokley combines forces with saxophonist Chris Hemingway. They will be performing at Salon 33 in Princeton, NJ as a classical saxophone duo, Odd Men Out. OMO will be performing works by Bach, Beethoven, Haydn, Mozart, Telemann, Rossini, Hindemith, and more. This concert will also include the world premiere of a piece written specifically for the two alto saxophonists and piano by Pittsburgh composer, Suzanne Polak.

In May, Yokley will be performing again with Sound Reformation in New York City at Fat Cat Jazz Club, but this time his group will be embarking on an entirely different project. Sound Reformation will have special guest Johnny Rivero, the world renowned latin percussionist and conga player for Eddie Palmieri, on an all Latin jazz concert program.

Yokley stays busy mentoring and teaching the next generation of musician. The student saxophone quartet that he coaches at Westminster Conservatory placed first in the Music Fest competition and will be performing at Carnegie Hall on March 15th. The students just competed in the Golden Key Music Competition recently and if they place in that competition too, they will have the potential to play at Carnegie Hall twice this year!

The student saxophone quartet will also be giving a full length recital on May 9th at Salon 33 in Princeton. “I'm very proud of these young men and women and happy to have the opportunity to work with them and pass on my knowledge to them," Yokley concludes.
