Sacred Jazz Festival Denton, TX

Building on the success of the world's first Sacred Jazz Festival in Dallas in 2007, the second Festival will take place on Saturday, October 24, 2009 in Denton, Texas.

This one day event will showcase nine bands from Texas and beyond with public performances beginning at 2:00 PM and continuing into the early evening. The event will then be headlined by UNT's renowned Two O'clock Lab Band under the Direction of Jay Saunders.

All performances with be on the campus of the First United Methodist Church at 201 South Locust Street.

The day will begin at 10:00 AM for registered participants with several master classes conducted by faculty from the esteemed jazz studies program at the University of North Texas. Committed faculty to date includes Steve Wiest - Director of the famous One O'clock Lab Band; Mike Steinel -trumpeter, pianist, composer, arranger; Stefan Karlsson - jazz keyboard Professor, recording artist and member of the Eddie Gomez trio; Brad Leali - jazz saxophone Professor and music director for Harry Connick, Jr.

The festival will provide the public a unique opportunity to hear several accomplished big bands focusing on this special music category.
