In their first foray into the studio, Ripplegroove has attempted to elevate above the long and drawn-out jamband esthetic, without drifting into self-gratifying, “musicians-only" technical grandiosity. “So many instrumental bands tend to fall into one of those two categories so easily because they forget the most important thing: good songwriting," says keyboardist Joe Hanley. “If you never forget that your first job as a performer is to truly sing with your instrument and always strive to write inspiring music, you'll strike the perfect balance that so few bands achieve."
Under The Microscope achieves this balance by developing each song in interesting ways that non-musicians and musicians alike can enjoy.
Ripplegroove has a diverse pool of musical influences, and thus a myriad of styles can't help but be noticed on Under The Microscope. Rock energy, vibe and sound permeate the whole album, but moments of downtempo hip-hop, good-time bluegrass, chill electronica and body-churning funk are sprinkled throughout.
