Renowned Artist, Tony Ramos, Donates Work To The American Jazz Museum

The American Jazz Museum (AJM) is pleased to announce that the renowned artist, Tony Ramos has donated his work titled, “Ella” to the Museum. “The gift of this magnificent work titled Ella by Mr. Ramos is very significant on several levels,” states American Jazz Museum CEO, Greg Carroll. “Ella Fitzgerald stands as one of the pillars of musical art and she is prominently featured in our main permanent exhibit, as well as in many of the jazz films contained in our John H. Baker Film Collection. The benevolence of this gift adds another dimension to our collection,” he concluded.

Tony Ramos holds a Fine arts degree from Southern Illinois University and a Masters degree from California Institute of the Arts. Among his awards, Mr. Ramos has been the recipient of a Rhode Island Committee for the Humanities grant, a Rockefeller Foundation Grant and is an Aspen Fellow at the Aspen Institute, Colorado. He has been a visiting Professor of the arts at Rhode Island School of Design, San Francisco Art Institute, University of California - Los Angeles, University of California - San Diego, American Center, Paris, France and University of Paris VIII. In the 1970s He was a video consultant for the United Nations and the National Council of Churches.

The mission of the American Jazz Museum in Kansas City is to celebrate and exhibit the experience of jazz as an original American art form through Performance, Education, Exhibition and Research. The American Jazz Museum official website is located at AmericanJazzMuseum.org.
