Reggie Workman, one of the most technically gifted of all bassists, a brilliant player whose versatile style fits into both hard bop and very avant-garde settings did stints with John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk and Art Blakey. Pianist Jason Moran.
Although best known for his work with John Coltrane, his collaborative projects with other artists are quite impressive; Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, Yusef Lateef, Lee Morgan, Booker Little, Elvin Jones, Alice Coltrane, Freddy Hubbard, Wayne Shorter, Terumasa Hino, Mal Waldron, Max Roach, David Murray, Oliver Lake, Chico Freeman, Black Swan String Quartet, Ernie Watts, Sonny Simmons, New York Art Qt. and many others. In recognition of his contribution to the artist community spanning a period of more than 40 years, he was named a Living Legend in 1999 by the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation, and in 1995 by the African-American Historical and Cultural Museum of Philadelphia.
Jason Moran brings a distinctly artistic touch to his jazz compositions and piano playing. The impressionistic approach of visual and musical artists like Jean-Michel Basquiat and Maurice Ravel inspire Moran's playing and writing style.
