Ramsey Lewis Signs With Ted Kurland Associates
RAMSEY LEWIS SELECTS TED KURLAND ASSOCIATES AS EXCLUSIVE AGENCY Lewis brings his Trio and other exclusive packages to TKA
(Boston, MA) -- Ramsey Lewis, the man who put a groove into jazz 40 years ago with his mega-hit “The In Crowd" is going stronger than ever. The host of THE LEGENDS OF JAZZ radio and television shows, the Artist Director of the esteemed Ravinia Festival in Chicago, Ramsey tours on an ever-increasing basis, performing throughout the world.
Ramsey Lewis will be exclusively represented internationally by Ted Kurland Associates. The Agency is concurrently booking the Ramsey Lewis Trio and the exclusive packages of Ramsey Lewis with Dave Brubeck and the Ramsey Lewis with Joe Sample concert program.
TKA previously booked Ramsey on a whirlwind tour throughout the United States and Europe to support last year's release TIME FLIES on Narada Jazz. Prior to that tour, TKA booked the extremely successful Ramsey Lewis and Nancy Wilson project which grew out of Lewis' and Wilson's critically acclaimed CDs for Narada Jazz; MEANT TO BE and SIMPLE PLEASURES. After working with Ted Kurland Associates on a non-exclusive basis, Ramsey felt he had found a booking agency with which he wanted to “tie the knot."
Ramsey Lewis' career took off in 1965, with the release of THE IN CROWD, and the subsequent radio hits “The In Crowd", “Hang On Sloopy", and “Wade In The Water". Since then, he has been awarded three Grammys and has hosted several radio programs, including his current show on WNUA radio out of Chicago, and the syndicated LEGENDS OF JAZZ which is broadcast on over 70 radio stations nationwide and will be rolling out as a television show this fall. Ramsey debuted on the Narada Jazz label in 1999 with the release of APPASSIONATA and has gone on to contribute to three contemporary jazz projects for the label (URBAN KNIGHTS III, IV and V), as well as two duo projects with vocalist Nancy Wilson, MEANT TO BE and SIMPLE PLEASURES, for which he was awarded a 2004 NAACP Image Award (Outstanding Jazz Artist).
Recently, pianist Oscar Peterson taking into account the whole career arc traveled by Lewis, marveled, “Ramsey has evolved into a much broader and imaginative player and his group seems to complement his newfound avenues of invention." With each performance, Lewis continues to prove that even when looking back, it is possible to move one's art ever forward.
