The Primordial Jazz Funktet will celebrate the release of its first CD We Are Here at the River Room of Harlem on Saturday, November 8 from 7:30-10pm. The band is organized by pianist and composer, Dan Furman, and includes the popular hiphop artist Maya Azucena and jazz saxophonist Joel Frahm.

Primordial Jazz Funktet began in Atlanta, GA and brought its blend of jazz, R&B and hiphop beats to New York in 2003. PJF plays funky soulful tunes that tell stories. The sextet features originals by Furman as well as new takes on modern classics from Gershwin (a new musical setting of the lyrics to Summertime) to Stevie Wonder, the Stylisitics and more. Its expressive music with intense solos, says Furman, its jazz, but weve broken out of swing and bebop grooves and are going for a different sound.

The River Room overlooks the Hudson River in Riverbank State Park at 145th St and Riverside Drive in Harlem. The menu explores Southern cuisine broadly and has been described as elevated soul food. Reservations are highly recommended.

We Are Here is now available on iTunes and eMusic as well.
